Tongue twisters

A very helpful activity to improve your pronunciation is reading tongue twisters. Understanding the text is not as important as reading it out loud, if you can!!

 Betty Botter bought some butter,
"But," she said, "this butter's bitter.
If I bake this bitter butter,
It will make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter -
That would make my batter better."
So she bought a bit of butter,
Better than her bitter butter,
And she baked it in her batter,
And the batter was not bitter.
So 'twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter.

Heroes

We all know Batman and Spiderman. We have all read stories whose main character is a hero. They are usually brave and corageous and have supernatural powers to face difficulties. They are often involved in impossible quests that, in the end, are just a test for their skills, strength and good will. Humanity has always had heroes. Every culture has its own heroes who show slightly different features. There are heroes in literature, film and also anonymous heroes in everyday life.

In my opinion, a hero´s most outstanding feature is his/her contribution to society. We are social beings and no matter who you are or what you do you can always make an effort to offer other people the best in you. Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela are two excellent examples of social and political heroes. Even people with health problems can become heroes -take for instance Leo Messi or Vincent van Gogh- when they overcome their difficulties and provide outstanding contributions to the society they live in.

Who is your hero and why?
You might be surprised to know some people´s views on the issue!

Everyone can be a hero, even you!
What can you offer us? Surely you´ll be very good at the things you like doing. They/you can help people, make people feel good... and then you´ll become

A sport hero...

                                          Or an art hero

Or a music lover who makes people believe they can be heroes

I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, for ever and ever
Oh we can be heroes, just for one day

I, I won't be king
And you, you won't be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us, just for one day

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing, by the wall (by the wall)
And the guns, shot above our heads (over our heads)
And we kissed, as though nothing could fall (nothing could fall)
And the shame, was on the other side
Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever
Then we could be heroes, just for one day

We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes
Just for one day
We can be heroes

A challenge to read

What is the purpose of reading? Sometimes we read because we need to get  specific information, sometimes we do it to learn more about a subject, sometimes we read just for pleasure. Reading a text is a personal experience. Take for example two people reading the same text, each of them will understand it in a different way and experiment different emotions. Even the same person going back to the same book after a few years will probably have a different experience and may enjoy it more or less...
This is what this blog is about. To introduce reading as a challenging process. I expect we all provide texts, read and think about them and then try to write the ideas that come to our minds...
